Blanc Fixe (precipitated Barium Sulfate) is a synthetic barium sulfate produced from highly purified solutions in a defined growth process. extremely narrow particle size range for high gloss specifications, and neutral color, due to its low refractive index.
- Filler in paints, coatings, pigments, plastics, paper and rubber.
- Acoustics- used mostly in automotive to increase product density as well as reduction of vibration and noise. These components are often produced out of PVC.
- Functional additive in batteries.
- Used as a Titanium Dioxide extender- plastic compounds produced from Ti02 concentrates can extend the titanium. Because titanum is extremely expensive, there is major cost saving using the Barium sulfate, and because the density of barium sulfate is the same as titanium dioxide, there is not much change when replaced.
Properties of Blanc Fixe in these applications are:
narrow particle size distribution
extremely good wettability due to low specific surface area
the optimal extender for almost all applications in the production of paints and coatings and plastic.
chemically precipitated, pure barium sulfate. It is resistant to water, acid, alkali and organic solvents as well as to light and to industrial waste gases (e.g. sulfur dioxide).
For use in Plastics and Rubber - An inert and color-neutral extender to enhance density in noise- and vibration-suppression systems. Extension levels of up to 80% can be achieved. Suitable for color-sensitive systems with long-time stability.
A white pigment produced of a 30:70 ratio of precipitated Zinc Sulfide/barium sulfate.
Zinc sulfide used as a white scattering pigment with refractive index of around 2.4, The white barium sulfate is a spacer for white pigment particles. Lithopone 30% can be used as a partial replacement of titanium dioxide, additives and extenders in putties and in decorative emulsion paints.
